OYO demand manager held for raping guest

Police have arrested a demand manager working with OYO Rooms for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman at a hotel in sector-45 in Gurugram on Wednesday. Police said the incident occurred when she and her husband were staying at Emaar Residency for the past month.

The accused has been identified as Raghav (28), a resident of Ghamroj village in Gurugram. “The victim in her complaint to the police said she was not keeping well for few days so her husband persuaded her to stay for few days in a hotel.

“On Sunday, the couple made a fresh booking through the OYO app and met the manager of the hotel, Vikrant, at 5.25pm. Raghav, who was an OYO Rooms' demand manager, was also present in Vikrant's cabin at that time. After informing them about the booking, her husband left for work and she returned to the room,” she told the police.

“Around 8.50 pm, the accused came to her room and told her that they would have to shift to a different room. She asked him to wait until her husband returned from work”, the police said.

“At 11 pm, he again approached me but I sent him back, as my husband hadn't returned. But at 11.45pm, when there was a knock at the door, I thought my husband was back but it was Raghav again and he barged into the room this time. I was so weak that I fell down and lost consciousness,” she told the police.

According to the police, the victim regained her senses after a while and realised she had been raped. The woman and her husband then approached Sector 40 police station on Tuesday and filed a complaint against the accused.

“An FIR under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and the accused was arrested on Wednesday. “The accused has confessed to his crime and has been lodged in Bhondsi jail. Further probe into the matter is underway,” Ravinder Kumar, the spokesperson of Gurugram Police, said.

In a statement OYO, a network of budget hotels, said, “We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident at Emaar Residency and will continue to extend our full support to police in the probe, along with the owner of the hotel.

“As the matter is under investigation, we have suspended the employee in question”, it said. It also claimed that Emaar Residency wasn't a OYO owned hotel rather a partner on franchise model.
