After a series of car-pile ups and fatal accidents on Yamuna Expressway recently, another vehicle engagement was witnessed involving 14 vehicles in separate incidents on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway in the wee hours of Wednesday. Over a dozen people were injured in the two pile-ups. Despite tall claims by the Noida Police and Authority of making dedicated arrangement of quick response teams on the carriageway, the damaged vehicles and the debris remained at the accident site for almost two hours leading to a huge traffic jam on the stretch.

According to police, the accidents occurred between 8.00 and 8.30 am. “One of the pile-ups started near Gulavli Village about 3 km from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. A truck loaded with sand was stranded on the Noida to Greater Noida side, when an Eicher canter loaded with fruits rammed into it from behind. The impact was so high that the driver and cleaner of the vehicle were seriously injured. Before they could recover from the first accident, in the mean time a UP Roadways bus engaged into them,” said a senior police officer.

The second accident occurred near the Chaproli-Mangroli village area of Surajpur when eight vehicles crashed into each other around the same time. “As visibility was poor and the vehicles were traveling at a great speed, the pile-up happened. In this pile-up, no one was seriously injured but the vehicles were badly damaged,” said a senior police officer.
