Over 45,000 illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been deported from the national Capital in the last 22 years, it was submitted before a city court on Tuesday.

The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) also said that this year till June 30, they have deported 182 Bangladeshi asylum seekers and a batch of 119 more illegal refugees are awaiting deportation.

"The FRRO has deported 45,066 illegal Bangladeshi migrants from 1991 till date," the FRRO said in its reply to the court, which had sought explanation from it for not complying with its directive to periodically identify illegal Bangladeshi emigrants. The court had also asked the Delhi Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to respond to it on the issue.

While the Chief Secretary is yet to file a response, the court on behalf of the Police Commissioner was told that Delhi Police had approached the High Court, which has stayed the order.
