The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana — flagship scheme of the Union Government — managed to open 42,756 accounts in Ghaziabad, informed city District Magistrate Vimal Kumar Sharma on Thursday.
According to Sharma, in a span of 13 working days, 40 Government and private banks of Ghaziabad have succeeded in registering over 42,000 accounts. “To achieve this target, the banks have so far organised 40 camps, starting from August 15,” he added. The Union Minister of State (Independent) General VK Singh was the chief guest. The scheme was launched by the District Magistrate at the Collectorate. “The system has been made so simple that just a photograph is sufficient to open an account. One operation in a month is enough to maintain the account for which the account holder would be benefited with Rs 1 lakh insurance and Rs 5,000 overdraft with a debit card, to be issued at the time of opening the account,” he said.
