Outgoing Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, who retired on Monday, took a series of initiatives in his tenure to modernise the police force and enhance its service delivery capacity. To share his experience with “various stakeholders”, Bassi has compiled the successful initiatives in the form of a book titled “Smart way to a Safer Delhi”.
Bassi said since police organisations and opinion makers across the globe remain unaware of successful initiatives elsewhere, that’s why he felt the need to compile the same in the form of a book. The focus of the book is on measures taken since August 2013 till date, the period during which he headed the Delhi Police.
“These initiatives have made a far reaching impact in improving efficiency of the force, reducing corruption and ensuring greater confidence of people in its functioning. Some of the technological initiatives, which are first-of-its kind across the globe have been widely lauded as millions have benefitted from them,” Bassi said.
Some of the successful technological initiatives of the Delhi Police during Bassi’s tenure include ‘lost Report App’, which enables anyone to lodge a report about any article or document lost in Delhi, and ‘Motor Vehicle Theft App’, which allows anyone to lodge a complaint about a stolen vehicle and to receive documents to claim insurance without even visiting a police station.
“The complex software not only allows lodging of a complaint but actively assists the investigation process by automated checking of data of vehicles recovered across the country every day during the pendency of the case. The entire process of investigation and filing of a report in court is integrated and computerised till the last moment and even final court orders are emailed to the complainant,” he added.
