Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, who was recently released on bail after being arrested on the charges of supporting Maoists, has written to university’s Ram lal Anand College, “requesting to rejoin”.

Wheelchair-bound Delhi University professor Saibaba has been granted bail after two-year.

The college made a one-member committee to look into the matter and present a report to the governing body for a final decision.

“We received a written request from him saying that he wants to rejoin the duty. But unless the revocation of his suspension is declared, we cannot take any decision of his rejoining,” Principal of the college, Vijay Kumar told The Pioneer.

Saibaba was arrested from Delhi University in May 2014, and charged under Section 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Confirming that he wrote an application to the college, he said he “followed the procedure by reporting to the college.”

“After arriving to New Delhi, I followed all procedures as a Government employee. I reported to the college about my release and that I was back to join back my duties... they have told me that a decision would be taken by the governing body of the college,” he said.

Kumar, on the other hand said the documents submitted by the professor “were not acceptable to the governing body”. “The new documents do not have any stamp or signature of a competent authority. They have just plain with no authorisation proof.”The SC granted permanent bail on Monday April 4 2016.

Meanwhile, Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) reacted to the developments pertaining to Saibbaba. DUSU Joint Secretary Chhatrapal Yadav said, “DUSU condemns attempts to reinstate GN Saibaba at RlA College. He was suspended for his naxal links and has been granted bail on medical grounds. He has not been declared innocent”.
