Opp leaders express disappointment over Budget, BJP hails it

Reacting to the annual Budget 2019, leaders of various political parties in the national Capital expressed their disappointment saying that it does not address the basic issues of the citizens.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and president of city unit of Congress, Sheila Dikshit termed it “devoid of” substance. “It was a disappointing Budget — full of rhetoric and tokenism but devoid of substance. Being the Capital of India, Delhi has not been getting its due over the last few Budgets,” Dikshit tweeted after presentation of the Budget in Parliament.

AAP national spokesperson Raghav Chadha tweeted “Every Budget needs to be evaluated with respect to the country’s prevailing economic situation. We face 4 big economic challenges at the moment. Does it address any of these? Unemployment? NO Agricultural distress? NO Consumption slowdown? NO Private investment drought? NO.” Rajya Sabha MP and AAP treasurer ND Gupta and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta expressed disappointment saying that the Budget allocation to Delhi has remained stagnant at a miserly 325 crore since 2002, despite being one of the highest contributors of Income Tax.

He said, “This is not a Government that respects the elderly as they have shown no intent to increase the interest rates on small savings. Many senior citizens in India retire and lead their lives with small savings they have. Savings are the backbone of Indian economy and act as a buffer during recession. We can see many signs of impending recession and when it comes, only savings can secure us.”

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari welcomed the Union Budget and said that this will realize the dreams of farmers, youth, women and poor people of the country. He said that during the next five years, this concept of empowerment will become power house for the development of the country. This power house will provide energy to realize the dreams of making the country five trillion dollar economy, he said.
