'Opinion polls don't reflect reality'

Published on:

ARVINDER SINGH lOVElY was first elected in 1998 from Gandhi Nagar Assembly seat. He was the youngest MlA. He was first introduced as Minister in Delhi Cabinet in 2003. Since then he has been holding different portfolios in Sheila Dikshit Government. After three straight victories in 1998, 2003 and 2008, he is contesting fourth time from Gandhi Nagar seat, which is considered safe bastion of Congress. lovely tells Rajesh Kumar the priorities for his constituencies when he is elected for the fourth term by the people of Gandhi Nagar

First project you would like to take up in your constituency after coming to power for the next termIJ

The main problem in Gandhi Nagar constituency is still congestion and frequent traffic jams. There is an urgent need to construct a parallel bridge to the old Iron Bridge for commuters. Parking is another major problem in the area. In my next term, we will be working to create more parking space here.

What have your achievements been as an MlA and for your partyIJ

The list of achievements is too long.

It includes regularisation of 895 unauthorised colonies, food security programme for poor, power subsidy to those who consume less power, ownership right to people of resettlement colonies, extension of lal dora, regularisation of farmhouses, flyovers, 24x7 power supply, better infrastructure and roads. Simply put, the Congress is contesting the election from a development plank.

The Congress has made regularisation of 895 unauthorised colonies across the city a poll plank. Fact is, these colonies are still unauthorised and registry is not being done by Sub Registrar officesIJ

Delhi Government has regularised 895 unauthorised colonies and now the onus is on MCDs to pass the layout plan of these colonies. The corporation is deliberately refusing to clear the layout plans of the colonies. That is why sub-registrars are not registering documents. After the Assembly polls, the Government will ensure

speedy redressal.

Opinion polls reflect how the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will chew into your vote share this time. Your view.

I have nothing to say. All these polls being conducted are somewhere up in the air, they don’t reflect reality because nobody has made up their mind.

Is price rise an issue in the electionIJ

No. The Opposition BJP is trying hard to turn it into an issue at the polls. The prices of onion, potatoes and tomatoes will come down soon.
