While the monsoon is knocking on the doors, leader of Opposition (loP) in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta said that a task force should be constituted immediately and Domestic Breed Checkers (DBC) should be regularised and their salaries of DBC workers should be released.
"Every year from the month of May, the menace of dengue begins in Delhi and 3200 Domestic Breed Checkers (DBC) responsible for checking and destroying the larva of aedes mosquitoes", Gupta said.
"The coolers, tyres, earthen pots kept to water birds, unattended waste material on roofs are generally the breeding ground for aedes mosquitoes," adding, DBC are not being paid from the month of March and unfortunately Delhi Government is not giving any heed to their long pending demand of regularization," loP said.
Notably, DBCs are given only Rs 15000 per month. The Contractual Malaria workers on compassionate ground are getting Rs.12000 and field workers on contractual basis are paid Rs.19000 only.
Gupta charged that Delhi government intentionally wants to weaken the municipality by not providing funds so that dengue, malaria, chickungunya such type of vector borne diseases control programme may get affected. "Due to the non inter department cooperation, the lakhs of people living in Delhi are not getting due attention," Gupta added.
