As schools in the Capital opened their gates on the first day of nursery admission on Tuesday, parents thronged schools to purchase nursery admission forms for their children.
However, schools saw a reduced rush since most parents applied online. Greeted by a heavy downpour and the stir by the Delhi Government that left commuters stranded, the online application procedure came in handy for scores of parents on Day One of admissions.
Several schools informed that the footfall this time was lesser than the last time. Ambience School, Safdarjung Enclave witnessed over 60 parents visiting the school for forms while hundreds of applications were received online. Jeanie Aibara, principal of the school said, “It was because of the availability of the admission forms online and the unfavourable weather condition that led to a reduction in the number of parents standing in queues.”
Most schools had the option of applying online, while some schools like GD Goenka, Rohini went with the traditional way of application. “Quite a large number of parents came to school on the very first day itself. Certain schools with online procedure did not witness a large number of parents but we do not have this facility yet managed well,” said Ritu Pathak, Principal, GD Goenka, Rohini.
Nearly 100 schools out of the 1,200 private pre-primary schools in the Capital offered parents a comfortable online application option. Expressing their gratitude to schools which provided online forms, parents managed to apply to more than 10 schools in a day without running from pillar to post. “It’s a great system in place. I didn’t have to go anywhere and I applied to various schools. It helps working parents,” said Reetika, a parent. Another relieved parent Shantanu Mehrotra said, “I applied to five schools online but will also visit some schools since all schools do not have this facility.”
