Delhi University has gone completely online for the registration process from this year onwards. Students can sit at their homes and fill the online registration forms by paying either through credit cards or debit cards. This is essentially applicable to SC/ST and PWD students, who can register online for free. On submitting the forms, they will receive notifications through SMS and e-mails.
“DU attracts students from across the country, thus, we are ensuring easy access by going online. The printed OMR form will be available for `100 to the general category and OBCs, while it will cost only `50 for those who register online. For the SC/ST and PWD students, the printed forms will be for `50 and online registrations would be free. This step has been taken to encourage online admission process among the masses," said JM Khurrana, Dean, Students welfare.
"The university has also scrapped the payments through bank drafts. Students can only pay through credit cards and debit cards online," he added.
The printed OMR form too, has several changes primarily for data collection, said the Dean. The changes include the addition of columns for optional information, such as the location of school, the details on family income, mobile numbers and the category of schools under Government, public, Government-aided and others. He said the university wants to keep a record of how many students come from low economic background, Government schools in order to know the status in case there is any requirement to reconsider on changing the online status or other things. He said the details of income will not be disclosed or shared with the colleges and so it will not indulge in hike of fees in any way.
All forms are largely similar and all admissions are going to take place through colleges. Although a separate cut-off list would be put up for the SC/ST and PWD candidates. The PWD students will have to attach a copy of their medical certificate taken from the hospitals recommended on the DU website and the admission brochure. This time, there would not be any medical board to check their disability.
