Days after the Delhi Police busted a gang of alleged cheats who had a database of nearly one crore bank accounts and had targeted many people by transferring their hard-earned money to various online merchants, another accused, Puran Gupta, in connection with the case was arrested on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Romil Baniya said the matter came to light when a Greater Kailash resident Shushil Chandra Rastogi registered a complaint. According to the complainant, he received a call from someone who told him that his credit card had been blocked and if he wanted to reactivate it, some details were required.
“After giving the details, he found that Rs 1,46,000 was transferred to some online merchants i.e. PayU, Paytm, Ola Cabs, Mobikwik, RPSl, MMPl, TTSl, Vodafone bill pay etc.,” said Baniya. Mounting technical surveillance on the transactions and the details of the caller who called the victim, police had tracked the first accused of the case, Ashish Kumar Jha of Jahangirpuri.
