A-56-year-old woman was killed while three dozen people got injured in a yet another massive pile-up of 60 vehicles at Yamuna express way on Sunday morning. The pile-up was triggered after two SUVs collided into each other after being reportedly involved in a race in the dense fog.
Ten people, including two pregnant women, have received severe injuries and were admitted in a private hospital. Commuters and two ambulances were stuck in the heavy traffic jam for hours on e-way that was later freed by using cranes. According to police, the incident took place at around 9:30 am around 27 km away from zero point of Greater Noida in Rabupura region. Police said that two cars one Fortuner and one BMW were racing and overtaking each other while moving towards Aagra side on the Expressway.
The driver lost his control and suddenly applied breaks but another speeding SUV coming from back hit the car resulting in a chain reaction with a number of vehicles colliding into each other on high speed.
Ambulances of Yamuna e-way authority and a private hospital were rushed to the spot and the injured people were pulled out from the smashed vehicles and admitted in Greater Noida’s hospital.
Police said a woman identified as Geeta Gaur (56) succumbed to her injuries later on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, other people identified as Vijay Kumar (50), Naushad khan (27), Rahul(24), Gurvinder Nagpal (25), Garima(32), Nitu(23), Prinsh(21), Swati (25) and Reena Jain got critically injured in the accident and all were admitted in intensive care unit (ICU).
A senior police official said, “Prima facie, two reasons behind the accident have emerged in the investigation. First the overtaking of two vehicles that led to collisions and other was dense fog. We are investigating the CCTV footage on the accident spot to clarify the cause of incident.”
“A woman succumbed during treatment in the hospital while ten people are said to be in critical condition.
