Even the highly-secured North Block has petty thieves lurking around. A 30-year-old man, who is a contractual employee in Public Works Department (PWD), was caught while stealing a copper gas pipe from an Air Conditioner installed in the North Block room number 192, which is the office of Sanjeevanee Kutty, the Financial Advisor to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Rahul Kumar, who is a native of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. Around 9:50 pm, security official Jamil Ahmed who was patrolling on the rooftop of North block saw the accused committing the crime and shouted at him.
"Sensing trouble, Kumar immediately left the copper pipe and started running and the security official caught up with the accused and nabbed him," said the police official. On questioning the accused, he confessed that he was trying to steal the copper gas pipe.
The accused was then taken to the Central Industrial Security Force office and he was interrogated further. "His identity cards and other belongings were checked and a call to the police was made," said the official.
A police team took Kumar to the police station, where he was questioned by senior police officials of the district. An FIR against Kumar was registered at the Parliament street police station under sections of theft.
