Once myopic AAP to train sights on Delhi for the next 5-10 years

Preparing for the polls, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said he will focus on Delhi for the next five to 10 years and any decision on fighting elections in other States will be taken only after people’s mandate in the Capital. Besides, the fledgling party attacked the BJP-led three municipal corporations and has launched an intensive social media campaign with the trend #BJPki MCDloot.

Noting that a strong base in the national Capital was necessary for the party’s growth, the 46-year-old leader said any decision on fighting elsewhere will be taken after polls in Delhi. “We are only concentrating on Delhi. As far as I am concerned, I am going to focus on Delhi for next five to 10 years,” said Kejriwal, who led AAP to a dream debut in the Assembly polls in December last year. The civil servant-turned politician, who faced severe criticism for quitting as Delhi Chief Minister in February, said AAP was “fully ready” to take the electoral plunge and identified BJP as its main opponent.

Meanwhile, the party blamed the saffron party led three MCDs for the “miserable” condition of cleanliness in Delhi and said it will showcase the civic body as BJP’s “model of governance” during the campaign for the upcoming Assembly polls. The party said it will take the reality to the people and “will present the MCD as BJP’s model of governance in the campaign for the coming Assembly elections.”

The party also said that when the Central Government had launched the ‘Clean India’ campaign on October 2, the AAP volunteers had been actively participating and promised the residents to make it a continuing campaign by monitoring it. “People from across Delhi had sent at least 10,000 photographs of filth in their areas on the AAP’s WhatsApp helpline number, all of which were sent to the mayors of the three MCDs, who didn’t take it seriously,” the party said.

It also said, “MCD is known for its inefficiency and poor work culture. The state of affairs in the MCD, which represents the BJP’s model of governance for Delhi, has been shown the mirror by the court at least thrice in recent days.”
