Once bitten twice shy? Not in dengue risk Capital

Published on:

Dengue cases in the Capital are increasing by hundreds every week. After crossing the 300 mark last week, Delhi civic bodies have clocked 438 cases till November 1. However, according to the civic bodies, the number of cases reported this season is much lower as compared to last year, which had recorded about 4,402 dengue cases during the same season in the city.

The official report by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) released on Monday noted that the number of dengue cases in Delhi and its adjoining areas like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana has increased significantly. Most officials feel that it is the change in weather leading to this sudden spurt in cases of dengue.

Till now, two deaths due to dengue have been officially reported in the city, which does not include the death of an eight-year-old boy Rishi Qaddafi from Srinagar, who died of dengue and leukaemia at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on September 28.“Usually after Diwali, there is a fall in dengue cases. But then there has been a spurt in dengue cases as the temperature is conducive to the breeding of mosquitoes,” a senior municipal official said.

The highest number of cases is from South DMC, which has noted 205 cases after North DMC at 84 known cases.
