A 19-year-old fashion designing student was raped by her uncle inside the cottage of gymkhana club in Chankyapuri area. The incident occurred on the eve of Valentine’s Day and complaint was made on February 19. However, New Delhi district police has failed to make any arrest even after a week and raids are on in lucknow, Uttar Pradesh to nab the absconding accused.
Police said that the victim is a native of lucknow and stays in West Patel Nagar area in a rented accommodation. “The victim told the police on February 19 that her uncle, Sandeep Kohli, who is a professional photographer and renowned lucknow based businessman arrived in the Capital and asked her to come to meet with him in gymkhana club on February 13,” the officer added.
The victim, in her statement, told the police that she came to meet with him and he allegedly raped her inside the cottage of gymkhana club after threatening her. After raping her, the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone of the matter. “Initially the victim was in a state of shock but after some days, she finally mustered courage and narrated the incident to her parents who in turn informed the police about the incident. later, she was taken to hospital for medical examination which confirmed rape,” police officer said, adding that after registering the case under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (threatening), police started their investigation and a team has been sent to the native place of the accused.
Police sources said that a team of Delhi Police visited lucknow on February 22, but the accused Kohli and his wife were found missing. “With the help of technical surveillance, it came to light that the last phone location of Sandeep was found in Gurgaon at 4:52 pm on February 19. There is a strong possibility that Kohli is trying to leave the country,” the officer added.
