Despite Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MlA Amanatullah Khan claiming that the Congress workers fired at him in a late night clash on Tuesday, police said that they are still to find evidence. Meanwhile, the police officials said that there was nothing to suggest that firing had taken place. Police tooth combed the entire area but could not find even single empty bullet to suggest that bullets were fired.
Though the police is on a high alert, following the unsavoury incident, tension was palpable in the Jamia Nagar area with residents apprehensive of more skirmishes between the two factions with municipal polls just four days away.
Meanwhile, police said that there was a scuffle between the AAP and the Congress workers and no complaints have been received from either party. Both Amanatullah Khan and two times sitting Congress councilor Shoeb Danish resorted to a campaign on social media to get support to convince voters for their case. Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, Shoeb Danish did Facebook live to clear the air after his name was dragged into the controversy by the controversial AAP MlA who has been arrested twice by the South east district police.
The incident took place near Batla House Chowk at Jamia Nagar in Okhla. Khan alleged that the Congress workers, including candidate Shoaib Danish, barged into the AAP’s office and started to scuffle.
Khan said while he was talking to a sub-inspector regarding the incident, three rounds were fired at him, but he escaped unhurt. The AAP MlA said the shooting was “a desperate act by the Congress supporters”.
The incident happened post Tuesday midnight outside the AAP office when both the parties were campaigning in the wake of MCD polls.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of South east district, Romil Baaniya said a call was received at 12.10 am regarding the clash between the workers of the two parties at Batla House Chowk after which the police rushed to the spot.
“Another call was received from AAP MlA Amanatullah about the firing at 12.57 am,” the DCP said.
The DCP further said that no one was injured in the firing and both parties blamed each other for it. “Both parties were asked to give written complaint but no complaint was received from them. Action would be taken as per their complaints,” Baaniya added.
