The Delhi Police on Sunday again took lalta and Rakesh to Shastri Bhavan to recreate the sequence in the espionage and leak scandal of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. They were asked to identify the exact places where the stolen documents were kept.
Crime Branch team confronted them in the presence of the executives of the corporate houses to know the quantum of theft. Crime Branch is also likely to summon the seniors of the five corporate officials held in the Petroleum Ministry document leakage case asking them to join investigations, sources said on Sunday.
“We will soon be sending notices to the seniors of all five arrested officials. We want them to join the probe,” a police officer said. In a related development, Crime Branch sleuths questioned three senior officials of Jubilant in the wake of revelations made by the prime accused.
They were later allowed to go but have been asked to report to the Crime Branch office at Chanakyapuri. The Investigating Officer questioned two top executives of Reliance Industries limited (RIl), including E Raghu Raman. They were being questioned since Saturday night. Senior police officials said that more officials were on their radar and they all will be summoned to join the investigations.
Police officials said that said that lalta and Rakesh are privy to more information but have not revealed all. The IO will move the court to seek their custodial remand to unearth the entire conspiracy and the players behind it. They were again grilled in the presence of Santanu Saikia and Prayas Jain, the two key accused in this scandal.
In addition, the police were also on the lookout for an employee of the Petroleum Ministry named lokesh, who was part of the multi-tasking staff (MTS) in Shastri Bhavan. Police said it is likely that lokesh, who is missing at the moment, was working for another group of private companies and leaking information to them. “We are probing all the angles and may register a new FIR in this regard,” said the officer.
It may be recalled that Crime Branch has already arrested two Government employees — Asharam, 58, and Ishwar Singh, 56 — who too were working as multi-tasking staff in Shastri Bhavan. Meanwhile, the five officials have been sent to three days’ police custody as police raided two places in the city as part of its investigations.
Those sent to police custody till February 24 are RIl corporate affairs manager Shailesh Saxena, Jubilant Energy senior executive Subash Chandra, Reliance ADAG DGM Rishi Anand, Essar DGM Vinay and Cairn India GM KK Naik. All were arrested on Friday and booked under sections dealing with criminal conspiracy and use of stolen property.
