Three days after a fire broke out in upscale Tulip Orange society located in Sector-70 Gurugram, a critically injured woman identified as Vaishali died on Friday at a private hospital. Her daughter Swati Garg died in the incident on October 8.
As soon as the report about her death spread, angry society residents protested and demanded strict action against the guilty. Residents were later pacified by police who assured them that penal action will be initiated against the accused.
The residents too met the city’s Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) at his office and handed over a memorandum to conduct an enquiry into the matter.
The incident had taken place on October 8 in which an interior designer Swati Garg had died and her mother Vaishali was critically injured. The fire broke out at the electrical metre of the building on the ground floor and spread through the electrical shaft.
“It is a clear case of negligence by the builder. About 95 per cent of the space inside the society was occupied by the builder and there is no safe exit during the incident. Also, electric panels are wrongly deployed at fire exit path,” a resident of the society said.
“We will visit the society by Monday and conduct an enquiry. Also, I have passed an order to the concerned officers to conduct surprise visits in the other societies in thecity and file a report if any negligence is found out on part of the builders,” SDM Sanjeev Singla said.
Police have registered a case against the owner of the Tulip InfoTech Praveen Jain, Eiffel Facility services and District Town and Country Planning (DTCP) department at Badshahpur police station. However, no arrest has been made so far.
