Days after Delhi Police registered a rape case against an Arjuna awardee marksman by a fellow shooter, the sport’s national federation on Sunday said that none of their coaches were involved in the case.
Sources said that National Rifles Association of India (NRAI) Secretary Rajiv Bhatia told a news agency that “We have come to know about this from media reports. None of our coaches are involved, but it is an unfortunate incident. We are awaiting details from the Delhi Police before deciding the next course of action.”
The yet-to-be-named shooter has been booked for rape after a national-level woman shooter registered a complaint at the Chanakyapuri Police station.
The victim in her complaint has said that she knew the accused, who is an Olympian, for two years and they met while training for the national championship at a Sports Authority of India shooting range.
She alleged that the accused had promised to marry her and last month, he had raped her after lacing her drink with sedatives.
