North Delhi Police under its new Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madhur Verma, on Thursday launched its own Facebook page and Twitter handle. The first of its kind initiative by any district police force in the national Capital is an effort to establish an interface between the local police and the general public. The general public can also post their grievances on it as well and they can also share information with the district police too. When asked about the step for connecting with the people on the social networking site, the DCP, North said, “We have launched our Facebook page and Twitter handle in order to provide general public an easy and accessible interface so that they can communicate with us. We would post things relevant to the people in the area.” North Delhi Police Twitter hashtag is @dcpnorthdelhi. The Twitter handle was launched on Friday.
The new initiative has been conceptualised keeping in mind the large number of student population which study in various colleges of Delhi University’s North Campus. There is a sizeable population of students from the North-East States in the areas adjoining DU. Both these groups are considered tech-savvy and it will be easier for them to communicate with us through social networking sites, the DCP said.
