Superintendent of Police (SP) City Salman Taj Patil told The Pioneer, “There has been constant effort to motivate the lower and upper subordinates to rise to the level of expectation of the people. I have introduced grading system for the police stations to judge their efficacy in preventing criminal activities”.

“On preventive measures 1 mark would be awarded to the police station

for  taking action under Arms Act, 2 marks for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 5 marks for Gangster Act, 4 marks for solving a robbery ,5 marks for solving a murder case and 25 marks for detention under the National Security Act (NSA)”, the SP said.

Simultaneously negative marks would be given to the police station in the event of a crime incident taking place under its jurisdiction. Negative marks would ascribe to street crimes such as chain snatching, -1/2 mark would be awarded for chain snatching,  -1/2 for burglary, -2 for robbery and -5 for dacoity.

After deducting marks from positive ones, the net marks would be compared between the eight police stations of the city.

“A certificate would be awarded to the winner police station by the SSP Ghaziabad each month. The police station which goes lowest would be warned and even then if it does not improve its working  for the next three months, a report would be sent to the SSP  for punitive action and transfer considering the staff and the Station House Officer (SHO) for not being not worthy of the posting,” Patil added.

For the past two months the Sihani Gate and Vijay Nagar police stations maintained their number one position. The SHOs were awarded an appreciation certificates by the SSP.

“After introduction of this motivational scheme the police stations are in race of being number one. As a result of this scheme the crime rate has fallen down as the staff is working over time to minimize the crime graph in under their jurisdictions. The marks awarded to respective police stations would be disclosed in the first week of November. This scheme has been appreciated and is being implemented in other districts of the state, the SP City further said.
