The Gurugram Police on Monday launched a mobile number, 9354017145, which would enable citizens to share information about criminals whereabouts and illegal activities to the police. The number will work 24x7 at the Commissioner of police office.

“We have started an information system for the residents. In this number, people can share illegal activities of the criminals and information at their hideouts. Through this number, people of the district can report or update the police about any criminal activities through Whatsapp, SMS, video-clipping or images, Commissioner of police, KK Rao, said.

He said the police would swing into action as soon as any information related to crime, illegal activities and movement of criminals law and order is received.

“Most of the time we have noticed that people want to inform the police about the criminals and their illegal activities but they don't know how to inform the police. Through this number, they can share their information about the criminals. Their identity would be kept secure,” Rao, said.

With an aim to connect more with people and generate confidence among them, police in the city recently had launched Prahari Squads in order to increase police presence on the city roads. Also, the night patrolling has also been increased.

“I have given strict instructions to the personnel to redress the genuine information at the earliest coming through this platform. It will surely give a sense of security to the common man and also help the police intelligence team and crime branch team to collect more information about the criminal hideouts,” the commissioner, said.

Police teams are now patrolling streets and small alleys, which were otherwise not covered, the city police chief said, adding that this system could also improve intelligence gathering.

Under the police modernisation initiative, a modern control room that manages the 'Dial 100' helpline in the city has already under process.

The control room is also keeping an eye on the movement of traffic and traffic violations through CCTV cameras.

The new initiative, including WhatsApp messenger, will help police in getting relevant and timely information helping to nab those involved in illegal activities, the police chief, said.
