In a bid to prevent mishaps and ensure safety of the vehicles propelled by the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the national Capital, it has been mandatory to have a ‘compliance plate’ fixed on them. Absence of these compliance plates will render the vehicles ineligible to get the clean fuel from any CNG gas station in the city.
It will be compulsory for the compliance plates to display the registration number of the vehicle, cylinder number, date of the testing of the cylinder and name of the dealer who installed the CNG kit on the vehicle. The move according to the transport department officials will inculcate a culture of regular testing of the CNG cylinders of the vehicles ensuring their safety.
The Transport department has directed the authorised CNG dealers in the national Capital to fix the compliance plates on the vehicles along with the CNG kits. Indraprastha Gas limited (IGl) on the other hand, has granted the owners of the CNG driven vehicles over a month’s time till March 31, to get their vehicles fitted with the compliance plates. “This will ensure regular testing of the cylinders of the CNG driven vehicles and curb the instances of mishaps due to cylinder leakage,” said a Delhi Government official.
The department had issued a circular on this matter in February directing all the authorised CNG dealers to fix compliance plates on all the vehicles they have converted into CNG vehicles till now and on the vehicles they will be fitting with the CNG kits in the future.
For an effective observance of the rules, IGl along with the Transport department has granted the vehicles owners time till May 31, to get their vehicles fitted with compliance plates. Those vehicles which fail to get these plates fitted will not be allowed any refill from any CNG station in the city. “To generate maximum awareness, IGl has displayed the information on its website as well has started making the people coming to gas stations aware of the rules,” added the official.
