Not allowed to marry girlfriend, Dish TV manager hangs self

A 24-year-old manager with Dish TV in Noida Sector 58 committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Noida on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Mohit Sharma, a resident of Ambala city of Punjab, hanged himself after failing to convince his family that he wished to marry his girlfriend and not the girl they had chosen. No suicide note has been found.

According to police, the incident was reported early morning when the victim’s girlfriend in Delhi called Mohit’s sister saying Mohit had threatened to end his life.

Both the sister as well as the girlfriend of the victim rushed to his place, only to find him hanging from a ceiling fan. Police were notified and the next of kin in Ambala informed as well. Mohit was rushed to Metro Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said Mohit was upset over his marriage being fixed by his family to a girl based in Noida. On Monday night, when his sister was reportedly away in Delhi, Mohit engaged his girlfriend in an all night chat on a social networking site. Police said Mohit reportedly had another girlfriend tucked away in Ambala, who too was weighing on him to marry her.

“Though his family has not lodged any complaint as yet, his body has been sent for autopsy; the report of which is awaited. We have sealed the premises and have confiscated his laptop and cell phone.

We are also questioning the landlord and neighbours for leads, if any,” said a senior police official of Noida Police.
