North Block fed up with monkey business

Published on:

The Union Home Ministry has floated a tender for hiring the services of a monkey catcher to eradicate the menace from North Block, the seat of power in the national Capital.

According to the terms and conditions of the tender, the monkey catcher will be deployed in three shifts round-the-clock and seven days a week.

He will have to drive away the monkeys from the premises of North Block building, including floors and terraces. The contract will initially be for one year and may be extended for another year on the same terms

and conditions.

The contracted agency will arrange for medical aid in case the monkey catcher suffers any physical injury during the period of contract. “The Ministry (MHA) will not be responsible for any kind of injury to the monkey catcher or any other person while performing work under the contract. The agency will be fully responsible for such an incident, if any,” says the tender notice issued by the Ministry recently.

The selected agency will work under the supervision of the caretaker of the North Block building. The expenditure for the project will be shared by the Union Home Ministry and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in the ratio 2:1.

Apart from the Union Home Ministry, the North Block also houses the Finance Ministry, DoPT, offices of the Directors of CBI and Intelligence Bureau, besides the office of the Secretary (Security) under the Cabinet Secretariat.
