There are 20 cameras at five different locations which are non-functional in Gurugram. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) had installed 61 cameras in 15 different locations in January.
But several of these cameras are yet to get electricity connection and some are not working due to lack of maintenance while some devices are dislocated.
The situation is as bad at the Kabir Bhawan Chowk, New Colony more, Harish Bakery and Sector 4/7 Chowk on the Old Railway Road. Also, on the New Railway Road stretch at Dronacharya College, on these locations 20 cameras are not working since after installations. This has put the city’s safety at risk, said residents.
On these two stretches, through which maximum traffic enters and exits the city. The numbers of cameras are not working on these too busiest stretches of the city.
Non-functional cameras provide a safe exit route for criminals after striking in the city.
“Number of snatching incidents have committed on these stretches, but none of the CCTV cameras installed on this important stretch could capture the crime. The reason, They were not functional,” Pankaj Kumar, a city-based social activist, said.
“We have written to the concerned authorities and informed about the status of the CCTV cameras. We have raised the issue a number of times but to no avail.
Which indicates that no one is bothered to get them fixed properly, a senior police official said on requesting anonymity.
