Noida's first 6-lane flyway to open partially by Oct

Bringing much-needed relief to the commuters, the Noida authority has decided to partially open Noida’s first six-lane elevated flyway between Sector-18’s GIP Mall and Noida Sector-60 for the commuters by October this year. The authority said that a 2.8-km stretch portion of the 4.8-km elevated road will be open for public this year, while the rest would be completed by September 2017.

Meanwhile, the authority has also planned to open Model Town underpass on NH-24 on August 15. The decision was taken on Wednesday after a meeting with the officials at the authority office.

Both the projects will help to ease traffic and provide streamlined traffic movement for the commuters coming from South Delhi via DND, Kalindikunj towards Noida and Greater Noida and towards NH-24 and Ghaziabad. The projects will benefit around 10 lakh motorists travelling on these routes, the authority said.

Authority official said that the partial section will skip four traffic signals out of 10 planned to be decongested.

Chief Project Engineer(CPE) of the Authority AK Goel confirmed that 2.8-km stretch of the under-construction 4.8-km elevated road has been constructed. It is now being connected with clover leafs at two intersections to drive in the city’s arteries. “We have completed its construction from NTPC to Noida Sector-60 and it is to be partially opened by October 2016. We are now constructing cover leafs at NTPC intersection,” he said.

Two intersections, namely Sector 58/61 and Sector 24/33, will be decongested through this move. “A total of 71.3 per cent construction work has been done on 4.8-km elevated flyway. It will take two months to give it a final shape,” CPE Goel said.

The elevated road starts from Vishwa Bharti School in Sector 28 and ends at Flex Industries in Sector 58. The work on this project was started in 2014 and its deadline is scheduled to be October 2017. It is being constructed at an estimated budget of Rs 415 crore.

Meanwhile, CPE AK Goel said that 90 per cent work on the Model Town underpass has been completed. “We have completed construction at one side of the underpass. However, work on the other parts is on. Remaining 10 per cent work is expected to be completed by the end of July. We will open it for public on the Independence Day. The underpass has been constructed with push box technology with four clover leaves, two on either side of the National Highway to avoid jams on NH-24,” AK Goel said.

The authority had started work on this underpass in March 2014. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 112 crore. The underpass is located between Sectors 62 and 63, perpendicular to NH-24 near the Model Town police post. It will provide an easy passage for the vehicles moving towards Indirapuram and Vasundhara.
