Noida traffic crawls due to kanwar yatra

The ongoing kanwar yatra on the key roads in Noida is resulting into traffic snarls during peak hours. People travelling between Delhi and Noida were the most affected in the traffic jam. Traffic jams are reported from Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Mahamaya flyover, Kalindi Kunj Bridge, DND carriageway and Noida gate these days.

On Thursday evening, a massive jam was witnessed on the expressway and the road connecting Noida and south Delhi via Kalindi Kunj as scores of Kanwarias crossed Mahamaya flyover, Kalindi Kunj Bridge and Noida Gate. The motorists took two to three hours to cross the entire expressway. The

cascading effect of the jam was also witnessed on DND flyway where traffic movement also got slow down.

The decision of traffic police to stop heavy vehicles during these hours is further adding to the woes as drivers were forced to park their vehicles by roadsides resulting in traffic chaos. “As traffic police had stopped vehicles before the Mahamaya flyover, it took three hours to reach Greater Noida,” said Sumit Saxena, an employee working in a private company in New Delhi.

The traffic police officials said that they have restricted entry of heavy vehicles on routes going towards Western UP and national Capital from the district and have deployed additional traffic personnel to ensure smooth vehicular movement. “We have stopped heavy vehicles from entering the city till July 25 and those who come are being penalised. We have made elaborate traffic arrangement near City Centre, Mahamaya flyover, Kalindi Kunj Bridge, vicinity of Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Chhila regulator and volume of Kanwarias, who are coming from Western UP and Going towards Capital, are using these roads,” said RN Singh, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) of Noida.
