Commuters travelling between Noida and South Delhi areas via Kalindi Kunj will soon be able to take metro rides on Magenta line as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to complete the project six months before its earlier deadline. The project, which was earlier set for completion by July 2017, will now be completed by January 2017.

That will make Noida the first city in the national Capital Region which will be connected to Delhi by two metro links. Metro trials on this Rs845 crore corridor are expected to be conducted in December 2016.

The move will help reduce the traffic chaos between Botanical garden, Noida and Kalindi Kunj. Official said the metro line would connect Noida to Janakpuri, New Delhi via Botanical garden and Kalindi Kunj.

A senior Noida Authority official said, “The decision to reduce the deadline was taken in a meeting between Noida Authority officials and DMRC officials. As the construction on the project is already on full swing, DMRC officials have given directions to the contractor to complete the project six month earlier.”

Official said an integrated platform would be constructed at Botanical Garden Metro station, which will be an interchange station, to connect Blue line and Magenta line platforms in order to provide passage for the commuters without going outside.

The official added that the DMRC has completed 35 per cent construction work of the platform on opposite side of Botanical garden. Meanwhile, 50 per cent construction work of Okhla Bird Sanctuary station has also been completed.

The construction would be completed in June next year. Then, the work on power supply and laying of metro tracks would be started.

Also, DMRC has planned to start metro trials on this project in December 2016 so the metro line could be opened for public in January 2017 after getting an approval from railway safety commissioner.

Once ready, commuters will no longer have to go to Rajiv Chowk Metro station to take line 2 (Huda City Centre to Jehangirpuri) as the corridor will form a ringed route and connect Botanical Garden station with Hauz Khas station via Amity University, Kalindi Kunj and Kalkaji stations. The route will have three stations, Botanical Garden and Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida, and Kalindi Kunj in Delhi.
