The Noida authority on Tuesday initiated a drive to keep the city free from waterlogging. The authority has identified 21 low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and installed pumps to drain out rain water.

In the last four days, it has lifted 389 tonnes of construction debris and 400 tonnes of garbage from 48 identified drains. The official claimed 97.62 per cent of complaints related to rain have been sorted out. The authority is conducting spot inspections to deal with waterlogging and health issues.

It also claimed to have repaired around 200 potholes in the last one week.

The drive will continue till September. Additional Chief Executive officer (ACEO) Arun Vir Singh said, “We had made a strong pre-monsoon plan but it was later intensified as rain wreaked havoc in Gurgaon. All low-lying areas and drains were identified earlier and are being constantly monitored. We have fitted water pumps to remove excess water from these spots,” the ACEO said.

He said they have pressed additional equipment into service under this drive as dozens of JCB cranes, tippers and tractor-trolley, duffer placers, and bulldozers have been placed at different points in the city.

“These resources have been used to clean city’s drains and garbage is being removed from the identified places as well as new spots based on residents’ complaints. We are also removing debris from construction sites to free occupied spaces from the roads. We are trying all efforts against rain and traffic issues,” the ACEO said.

“We had got complaint of traffic jams at DND loops due to waterlogging last week but is has been repaired with connecting pipe lines to Shahadra drains. Traffic Jams are being reported due to traffic signal faults and the officials are looking into the matter,” the ACEO said.

They have also issued a number 0120-2421490 for Noida residents where they can complain. An authority official said they have been receiving an average of 70 complaint calls per day.

“We have got a total 1,3582 complaints regarding drain, garbage and waterlogging issue till August 1. We have resolved 1,3259 out of them,” said Additional Chief Executive officer (ACEO), Arun Vir Singh. Authority officials are also available on citizen charter through NOIDA websites and WhatsApp groups.
