This promises to be a paradigm shift in policing. Now, there’s a platform that both the police and civilians can use and gain from. It will help policemen collate crime and criminal records and the public get status report on FIRs.
In a bid to digitise all police stations in the country and hook them up via Internet, Noida police is set to introduce the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) — an ambitious e-wired system to aid police — in Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
The CCTNS will keep track of various crimes, maintain a database of the accused and suspects and share Intelligence reports on a network of computers across police stations.
With the implementation of the proposed system, the aggrieved can register their grievances online and track their status. It will also help users access permissible documents such as copies of FIRs. Records of every police station will be available on CCTNS.
According to senior police officials, the process of setting up infrastructure for CCTNS is in its final stage and is likely to be operational by end-October.
As many as 33 centres, including offices of Circle Officers (COs), Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), have been identified across the district to go digital and interface under this pilot project.
“People can now register an FIR without approaching police stations. They can apply for all kinds of police verification and arms licence through CCTNS. They can also share information via this network. This apart, police efficiency is also expected to improve; records will be archived,” informed an official.
RK Mishra, Nodal Officer of CCTNS for Noida police, said that the process of integration of the system has begun and police records from the year 2003 will be uploaded.
“We have completed 27 centres; work on the remaining is underway. Once the system is operational, it will be a breakthrough for law enforcement,” said the officer.
