Noida plans to add 200 more buses to its fleet

In order to improve public transport in Gautambudh Nagar district, Noida Authority has planned to run 200 buses in the area. The authority, under its newly created Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), has decided to run 100 buses initially and later the number will be augmented. The buses will run separately from the State Transport buses. Forty buses will ply in Noida, 30 in Greater Noida while remaining buses will run between both the cities.

According to Noida Authority officials, they have invited Expression of Interest from various companies and presentation is likely to be made on Thursday and the routes will be decided thereafter. These buses will be made available under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission in which 50 per cent of total cost will be borne by the Central Government while the remaining will be funded by Noida and Greater Noida Authority.

“As commuters face hardship while boarding the buses of UPSRTC due to poor frequency, the SPV will run the buses under Noida Traffic Cell. The industrial and institutional areas will be in priority as the commuters visit these areas in large number,” an official said.

As far as Greater Noida is concerned, the focus will be on Knowledge Park as over four lakh students live in the area. “With the proposed move, thousands of students, going towards national Capital and other parts of NCR, will avail the bus facility close to their colleges,” said an official of Greater Noida Authority.
