Noida plans four U-turns to ease traffic flow

In order to ensure signal-free smooth drive between Noida Sector-14A gate and Film City, the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) has proposed two underpass U-turns and two normal U-turns on the stretch. These U-turns will provide a big relief to the commuters plying between Delhi and Noida via Akshardham flyway.

The four U-turns will be built at a cost of Rs 50 crore. The Authority has finalised a Delhi-based agency DIMTS as consultant adviser.

A Noida official said that the first U-turn has been proposed to be constructed at Noida gate touching Delhi border. The commuters coming from Udyog Marg and expressway could go towards Sector-14A by taking a U turn from here.  Superintendent of Police (traffic) Ram Naman Yadav said that the plan would ease the traffic flow on the stretch.  “Traffic signal at this point cause long traffic jam during peak hours. The right turn has been closed here and the commuters take a long drive to take U-turn from the flyover of Delhi border side,” he said.

The second U-turn will be under Sector-14A and 15A flyovers. Official said that the commuters coming from Nagarjun and Slandered apartment and Sector-14A could move to Delhi by taking U-turn from here. Presently, they move a long distance to take U-turn from Golchakkar and Sector-15A gate.

Two underpass U-turns will come at Sector-15A gate number-I and II. Commuters coming from Noida-Greater Noida expressway could go Sector-15 A via using underpass U turn-1 while they could go Delhi side by using underpass U-turn-2.

Additional Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Prakash Singh said “We would operationalise these four U-turns by 2017 after removing three traffic signals from here. The commuters would get smooth traffic Sector-14 A to Mahamaya flyover.”
