The Noida Authority has launched a campaign against burning of leaves in and around the city. The authority has set up 216 vermicompost pits in parks of Noida to promote organic composting across the city. As many as 72 more vermin compost pits would be created in next month. It has also launched an awareness drive to promote composting in individual homes.
Following the National Green Tribunal order, the authority has also started its effort to ensure public awareness of the green norms. They have installed public notices of NGT guidelines and its fine at 268 parks, community centres and public places in and around the city.
“Noida have around 750 large and small parks. We have developed 216 vermicompost pits in all the large parks of Noida. Even, the organic garbage collected from any place in the city is being composted in the parks. We are also encouraging individuals who have large plots to learn and develop compost pits in their backyards,” said SK Gupta, Project Engineer, Heath, at Noida Authority.
“As for NGT order, the Noida is not allowing any one to burn leaves openly as burning releases carcinogenic gases in air and increase pollution. From last one week, we have started a drive to fix Public Notice Board of NGT guideline in Noida so they followed the direction. Rs 5,000 fines will be slapped if any one caught violating the norms. Teams have been made to imposed fine on people on regular basis,” Gupta said.
“The compost pits works as the caretaker puts the leaves in a large chamber with introducing soil and then vermin worms. After that they covered the areas by polythene sheet. A few days after, leaves turn into manure and used for developing plants.” Gupta added.
