Greater Noida and Noida authorities are contemplating tram service in the region to ensure “last mile connectivity”. The move will facilitate seamless transition between two townships. Following a board meeting on Friday, the officials of both the bodies announced to create a Dedicated Urban Transport Fund (DUTF) with initial amount of Rs 500 crore. It was stated that they were also examining all possibility of light rail or tram service so that public transport can be spruced up. The bodies will also allow e-rickshaw, feeder bus and other feasible options to provide last mile connectivity.
Meanwhile, they also announced that Floor Area Ratio (FAR) would be increased along with the Metro corridor to raise money for the DUTF. According to senior officials, condition of public transport is not good in the district and commuters face problems on a daily basis. Apart from this, there is also poor connectivity between Noida and Greater Noida in absence of adequate number of public buses. People have no option other than travelling in private buses to reach these cities. The DUTF will conduct a detailed survey of all areas and will decide means of transport which could be differed for different areas.
Rama Raman, CEO of both authorities, said, “As the region is developing by leaps and bounds, number of commuters is also increasing and it is the need of the hour to implement better traffic system in the district. With the help of the fund, we will be able to introduce tram services or light rail in every nook and corner of the district. If required, buses will be purchased to improve better connectivity between Noida and Greater Noida.”
