Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Javeed Ahmed on Monday inaugurated State’s first Cyber Crime Investigation Centre in Noida’s Sector-6. Equipped with advanced computers, trained engineers and cyber crime experts, the cell is expected to act as an arm to the UP Police, which has been found lacking in tackling cyber crime.

Cyber Crime Investigation lab is a dream project of  the Superintendent of police, Noida, Dinesh Yadav. It has been constructed by the Noida Authority. The entire project is based on public-private-partnership (PPP) model and was readied at the estimated cost of about Rs1.25 crore.

The DGP stressed on the increasing number of cyber crime offences in the National Capital Region (NCR). He said, “This centre will be a remarkable gift for Uttar Pradesh to tackle new trends in cyber crime. It will act as an effective tool to curb the activities of those people who are misusing social media and committing cyber frauds and hacking social sites.” He requested the internet users to be aware of cyber crimes.

The DGP said he was in touch with the Chief Secretary to increase the police force in the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida to deal with the crime and the burgeoning population .

It may be noted that District Magistrate NP Singh had also raised the issues of lack of police personnel in the city.

“We have to ensure that the public place like markets, malls, parks, schools are provided with security especially for girls and women”, the DGP said.

Kiran S, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Budh Nagar explained about the functioning of the lab and its investigation. “We have tools to tackle cases related to financial fraud, data theft, and social media crimes with Facebook, Twitter and other cyber incidents. It has four sections, including email tracking, data acquisition and recovery, social media investigation and mobile phone surveillance. It will help the law enforcing agencies in advanced investigations against cyber crimes,” the SSP said.

Inspector General of Meerut range Sujit Pandy and Deputy Inspector General of Meerut range lakshmi Singh also expressed their views on increasing cyber crime and the threat that it poses to the people.
