Noida designer tries to turn reel into real but gets 'busted'

Noida-based fashion designer Shipra Malik had staged her own kidnapping as she was facing financial crisis, said officials. She had mysteriously disappeared four days back. She was traced in Sultanpur Village on Jhajjar road near Gurgaon by the Noida Police after she called up her husband on Thursday late night and informed him that she was in Gurgaon.

She was alone when police located her. In her preliminary statement to Noida police, Shipra claimed that she was kidnapped by three people from Noida and was taken to Gurgaon. She broke down during questioning and confessed that she had gone on her own. She hatched the entire plot to kidnap herself after watching a popular crime show.

She was emotionally shaken after she saw her family and her toddler son on TV in distress and it was then that she decided to call her husband between the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. Her husband in turn informed Noida police and a police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gautam Budh Nagar Kiran S immediately left for Gurgaon to bring her back, DIG of Meerut Range, lakshmi Singh said on Friday.

The DIG said Shipra had hatched her own kidnapping plan as she was unhappy with financial and property disputes within her family and was under heavy debt. She was also not happy with her life style due to financial problems.

Police said she stayed three days at an ashram in Jaipur after leaving her home at Noida on 29 February. DIG lakshmi Singh said, “As for her statements, she took a bus from Botancial garden in Noida and reached Dhaula Kuan via DND flyway. Then she went to Jaipur in a State transport bus and stayed for three days in an ashram where her family often used to stay.”

“She was stressed due to pressing family issues. When she was traveling in bus, she called the Delhi Police Control Room from lajpat Nagar deliberately to mislead police. When questioned by police officers, she insisted that she wanted to inform police that she was going on her own will and her family was not responsible for this. She had thrown her mobile and purse on her way in Gurgaon.

“The scientific evidences collected by police ascertained her movements. But there are contradictions in her statements that are being verified by police for further investigation,” the DIG said.
