After the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) decided to sit on strike, the DU Registrar on Monday issued a notice stating that if the teachers sit on strike, the ‘no work, no pay’ policy would be implied on them. The DUTA decided to sit on strike from Tuesday onwards demanding the removal of the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and against the expulsion of two teachers from Hindu College, while also alleging disorders in the administration.
In 2012, too, teachers had sat on strike following which their one-day salary had been deducted and DUTA till date is trying to recover that money. The Registrar said while citing the rules that if the teacher will not take classes in college or his/her department, the University will cut his/her salary. Moreover, according to information from a DU official, the Delhi University teams of high officials will be visiting colleges.
However, the DU teachers’ organisations have opposed this move of DU. Meanwhile, for the last three days, even students’ organisations have been going to various places in the University to ensure the success of the strike. DUTA president Nandita Narain on Tuesday held public meetings at North Campus and in colleges and asked people to be a part of the strike. She said that things had gone too far and needed to be controlled. She also said that cutting their salary for the strike was ‘illegal’. The former president of DUTA, Aditya Narayan Mishra, said that teachers had the right to strike over their demands.
