The cold wave coupled with overcast conditions gave Delhiites no respite from the winter chill on Friday as the minimum temperature settled at 7.4°C in the national Capital, one notch below the season’s average.

The maximum settled six points below the normal at 16.4°C even as the city received no rainfall till evening. According to an official of the Northern Railway, a total of 30 trains coming to Delhi were running late while 32 trains leaving the national Capital were rescheduled due to fog. No train was cancelled. The fog also hit flights but marginally. Three departures were delayed by more than 15 minutes but no flight was diverted or cancelled, an official at the Capital’s IGI Airport said.

Earlier, in the morning, several parts of the city were enveloped in a dense blanket of fog causing visibility to drop before the situation improved as the day progressed. “Visibility was recorded at 400 metres in the morning, which increased to 800 metres at 2.30 pm,” said a Met official.

The lowest minimum within the city was 5.2°C recorded at Delhi University. Predicting partially clouded skies, the weatherman said, “The minimum and maximum temperatures may hover around 7°C and 17°C on Saturday with moderate to dense fog in the morning.” The maximum on Thursday had settled five degrees below normal at 17.6°C while the minimum was recorded at 7.4°C.
