The area, where the gang-rape of a 51-year-old Danish woman took place, was prone to criminal activities. When The Pioneer visited the spot, which is few kilometres away from Connaught Place, found neither a security personnel nor a police patrolling vehicle. locals claimed that there were no patrolling vehicles in the area since long time.

On Wednesday around 5:45 pm, a group of tipplers were seen guzzling liquor comfortably. When one of them was confronted, he said that they come here daily to drink and no one has ever stopped them. “We run our shops in CP area and frequented the area in the evening. We have not seen any policeman in the area for the last one year and even today no police vehicle has appeared in the area since afternoon,” said he.

Though barricades of Railway Protection Force (RPF) were placed near the entry of the road, no cop was present. Residents living in Railway staff quarters said that the barricades are just eyewash.

The Pioneer’s team saw two RPF men walking in the area. When they were asked about the security arrangements, they said they have never been ordered to keep vigil in the area and they have just come here to provide security of a senior official, who was inside officers’ club. The team also entered various office premises and spent time there but no body bothered to enquire about its presence in the area.

Kripal Singh, manager of the club, said that he was very much present in the club but did not hear any cry of a woman. “The victim might have been confused about the crime spot,” he added.
