As Delhi University continues bidding farewell to Professor Dinesh Singh whose term as the Vice-Chancellor ended last week, he looked back in gratitude to his colleagues and said, “no one in the history of Delhi University received as much support as I did.” Singh was felicitated with bouquets and shawls before the farewell lunch on Wednesday, while acting Vice-Chancellor Sudhish Pachauri praised the outgoing V-C reciting lines from renowned poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s works.
“I am usually not emotional, but today I feel emotional. I have just stepped in his shoes… something which I do not consider myself good enough for but accepted it only for his (Singh’s) sake. These few days have been like a test,” Pachauri said while reciting Faiz’s Nisaar main teri galiyon pe e watan (My salutations to thy sacred streets, O beloved nation).
Overwhelmed by the felicitations and farewells, Singh said, “I consider myself lucky for the kind of cooperation received from everyone. I do not think anyone in the history of this university had received such cooperation. Everyone over-worked yet made no complains.”
Singh said the main part was passing the test when my colleagues stood strong in the turbulent times.
“The road we were taking was great. It is because of this cooperation that we got DU at no. 1 position and I hope it continues to remain at the position,” Singh added.
Recalling Singh’s tough journey during his five-year-long journey, Pachauri said it is not new for people to oppose when you want to bring a revolutionary change.
