Delhi University (DU) is planning to “drastically” slash the number of cut-off lists for admission to its undergraduate courses from the upcoming academic session 2018-19.
last year, DU came up with 11 cut-off lists for admission to around 56,000 seats for undergraduate courses in various DU colleges. The admission process took almost two months for completion. For academic session 2017-18, the online application process started on May 22 while the first cut-off came out on June 24 and the last cut-off on August 23. The session started from the July 20.
“The entire process of admission with the dozen cut-off lists is a lengthy and tedious one. We are planning to shrink it drastically for which we are working on reducing number of cut-off lists,” said a senior member of DU Admission Committee, on condition of anonymity.
Strategy to end protracted process is being actively considered and various stakeholders, including college Principals, are to be consulted before coming up with a model for the same. “We are trying to streamline it so that the prolonged process of admission is cut short,” he said.
Another DU official closely associated with the admission process said it usually takes 1-2 days gap between announcing two cut-offs, which is generally the time a student gets for taking admission.
The officer speculated that decreasing the number of cut-off lists may increase the time which a student gets for taking admission up-to some extent and will also decrease the overall time in admission process.
The official also said that this year the application process will possibly start 10-15 days earlier as compared to last year.
However, the DU has convened a press-conference on Monday regarding admission process for Undergraduate, Post-Graduate and research courses (MPhil & PhD).
