No knife inside bus, says driver

After police arrested 42-year-old school bus conductor Ashok Kumar in Gurugram schoolboy's death case, driver of the bus Saurabh Raghav added a new twist to the case on Sunday by questioning police theory.

The driver said there was no knife inside the bus.

After the incident a police team reached Ryan International School and detained about 40 to 50 people, including three teachers, gardeners, sweepers, drivers and conductors. Police had said Ashok killed the boy with a knife which he had taken from the tool kit kept inside the bus.

"During interrogations, police told me that Ashok had confessed to the crime and I should also do the same. But I stuck to my stand that there was no knife in the bus. They threatened me through the night till 1.30 am," Saurabh said. The driver said there was no knife even in the tool box inside the bus. "I cleaned the box on Thursday. There were only some tools."

The entire village and family members of Ashok denied the charges which police have framed against him.

Saurabh said on Friday they dropped the students on the school campus at around 7.50 am and after 10 minutes the school staff and other employees went running towards the toilet.

The driver said he could not understand what had happened but he saw Ashok near the boy's body which was in a pool of blood. However, he said he doesn't know when Ashok went inside the school.

"Ashok told me that nobody wanted to touch the boy so the school's principal asked him to pick him and put him in his car," the driver said.

"We had urged the school authorities to make separate toilets and arrange proper water facility for drivers and conductors but they didn't pay heed to our request," he said.

"Ashok knows driving. He worked as a driver with a small school in his village. One day he lost his wallet in which he used to carry his driving licence. He didn't a have driving licence that's why he was doing a conductor's job in the Ryan International school," Ashok's father Amichand said.

"I met my son on Saturday in police custody but he only said police have beaten him badly. When I asked if he had committed the crime, he didn't reply," he added.
