With a rise in dengue cases in the last one week running up to 90 cases, the ill-preparedness of the three municipal agencies is under question.

The Corporation Mayors said it is not possible to handle the situation without cooperation of the city Government which has neither discussed the matter yet nor has provided any assistance and is passing the buck on civic agencies through the media.

“With the situation worsening, the need of the hour is to work together to tackle the problem. There is no initiative from the Government side and even Commissioners were called on by the Health Minister after exposing there non-cooperation. What is worse is that the Corporations’ allocation on health has been by the Government,” said Sanjeev Nayyar, Mayor of north MCD.

At least 90 cases of dengue have been reported in the national Capital this year with 40 new cases were recorded last week as per the data’s released by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday. According to the health experts, the city is witnessing a spurt in the water-borne diseases every week and there are fears that the situation might turn worse in the coming days. Of the 90 cases, 38 dengue cases are from Delhi while 52 are from neighbouring States.

As a part of dengue preventive measure, the SDMC sprayed 3,17,353 houses in the city and issued legal 47,825 notices to people for the presence of mosquitogenic conditions. The SDMC reported 51 dengue cases while North Delhi Municipal Corporation recorded 13 cases, whereas EDMC recorded 18 dengue cases.

SP Byotra, Chairman, Internal Medicine at Sir Gangaram Hospital, said, “Many patients are visiting OPD for the viral infection. People have received two-three patients suffering from chikungunya and malaria like symptoms. As there is damp weather these days, virus become active starts to infect people.”
