No change in DU sports quota norms

Students who intended to apply for admission to the Delhi University under the Sports and Extra Curricular Activities categories can breathe a sigh of relief as the guidelines issued for the quota remain unchanged. Speculation has been doing the rounds that the university was planning to do away with the entire quota from this year. However, as per sources, the previous five per cent reserved category still stands.

The guidelines officially issued by the university read, “For admission under the Sports and ECA (Extra Curricular Activities) categories, the Colleges may use their own Sports/ECA application forms. These application forms shall be made available by the concerned college. The admission to these categories shall be on the basis of guidelines issued by the university.”Joint Dean of Student Welfare (DSW) and Media Coordinator Malay Neerav said, “University guidelines are the same as they were last year.”

According to the university guidelines in 2013, field trials will be held at two levels - preliminary and final trials. They will hold 75 per cent weightage as 25 per cent weightage will be given to the certificates/achievements of the candidate’s best performance of the last three years.

However, students will only be exempted from field trials “if they represented the country in national, international championships.”
