No arrests in Gzb Police for custody death

The Ghaziabad Police has failed to arrest the eight policemen involved in the custodial death of an alleged auto-lifter. Anti-mortem injuries were found upon post-mortem examination of the deceased. He was also suffering from tuberculosis.

Uttar Pradesh Police DIG K Satynarayan said the injuries would be taken into consideration during investigation. However, he said there had not been any arrests yet. Investigating officer Rajesh Pandey said he was out of station on leave and so a probe could not be initiated.

Sources said tuberculosis may have reduced  immunity of the victim. In such a case, the injuries he sustained could have contributed to his death. Also, chronic lung decease could have led to the death, according to a medical expert.

Shakeel, an alleged auto-lifter, was picked up for questioning by the Ghaziabad Police. On Saturday, he died during police interrogation. A criminal case of illegal detention and murder was registered under Sections 302, 147, 148, 342 and 406 of IPC against eight police personnel, who were all suspended.
