In order to increase its revenue, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started a drive to identify the vacant properties in its jurisdiction. The civic body will lease out these properties to improve its financial condition, the Chairperson of Standing Committee Veena Virmani said.

Virmani inspected different properties in North Delhi area on Tuesday. During the inspection, she visited Sadar Paharganj zonal office compound at Idgah, city zone office building at Asaf Ali Road and areas, a senior North Corporation official said.

She also wrote to the commissioner of NMC and directed him to find out the possibility of generating revenue by leasing out the corporation building premises at Idgah. “This building is suitable for conducting business related activities and it can bring in substantial revenue to the corporation as well,” she said.

Along with this, Virmani also inspected the shops and Mahila haat located at City zone office building at Asaf Ali Marg and directed the Commissioner to invite an expression of interest for the same. She said since these are commercial places and located on the main roads, the corporation can earn handsome revenue by leasing out the building. Virmani said all efforts are being made to make the corporation self-reliant.
