NMC launches dengue helplines

Published on:

In order to tackle the menace of vector- borne diseases in its areas, North Delhi Municipal Corporation's (NMC) Commissioner Madhup Vyas has come up with helpline numbers for the public.

Vyas said that there is no medicine or treatment for dengue and chikungunya but it can be prevented through awareness. "It is very important to ensure its prevention by checking breeding inside homes, public institutions complex or its surroundings."

He said that the life cycle of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes is about seven to eight days. "If we break the life cycle of these mosquitoes just changing the water after mop cleaning of cooler once in a week, it would check the breeding of the mosquitoes," he said. The Commissioner also appealed the administrative heads of all Government and autonomous bodies offices, educational institutions, commercial establishments, market associations as well as citizens to initiate suitable steps to prevent mosquito breeding.

He said that effective control of the disease is not possible until appropriate steps are taken simultaneously in residential areas and in office/commercial complexes to prevent mosquito breeding.
